Nigel Osborne is a British composer, art therapist, and expert in using music and art to support children who have experienced trauma due to military conflicts.

During the lecture, we discussed how music and art can assist families affected by war, and explored a simple model—our mind, our body, and our relationships with others—how they are interconnected, and how music and art can aid in recovery.

We also examined artistic activities that support this recovery process, ranging from simple rhythmic exercises aimed at the biological consequences of trauma to composing songs, operas, and musicals, and addressing the psychological and social consequences of traumatic experiences.

The lecture took place as part of the Family Art Retreat Project, implemented by the NGO “ART DOT” (Kharkiv, Ukraine) in partnership with the NGO “Street Culture,” with financial support from the Razom Foundation and the “Culture Helps” program, implemented by Insha Osvita in collaboration with ZUSA with the support of the European Union.
